The Detroit supergroup My Detroit Players is hosting an intriguing evening of live performances with some incredible Detroit artists. The event will culminate with an integrated open jam session that will feature avant garde soprano saxophone player Pierre Lambla from Vendome, France as part of the
Detroit-Paris-Detroit experimental musical exchange. Musicians, singers, emcees are invited to bring their instruments to participate in this innovative live recorded jam experience.

My Detroit Players features founding members Emily Rogers of Lola Valley on bass and rising player/producer jr.got.the.hits on drums, two well-known DJs, Nick Speed and DJ Los on turntables, and trumpet phenom Allen Dennard. Each member brings a wide variety of influences to the songwriting , mixing timeless grooves of hip-hop and jazz with progressive rock-infused funk.

The equally talented and progressive Thy Bearings is a collaboration of bassist Tim Shellabarger of Will Sessions, keyboardist Eli Bucheit, drummer Dave Zwolinski and guitarist James Anthony. The band explores the intersections of funk and jazz fusion with grooves that will keep you dancing. Thrilling improvisations by these masterful players, plus saxophone prodigy Kasan Belgrave, will have you spellbound.

Other special musical guests will include the Atlanta-born rapper/entertainer OMG Flu, Racehorses are Resources, headed by experimental guitarist Chris Peters with the above-mentioned Nick Speed, as well as the young home-grown talent KO8iE.

The evening will be hosted by Kresge laureate haiku poet James Fuson and will also feature live painting by Alphonso Cox. Paired with the lively spring ambiance of the Tangent Gallery, this night of music promises to over-deliver. Doors 8pm, cover $10
